Another short and sweet trip, this time to familiar ground: the White Mountains of New Hampshire, one of my [usually] winter playgrounds.
Day One: Hooked up with my old friend Steve Geremia and did a slog on the north side of Mt. Jefferson, at 5712 feet, the third-highest mountain in New Hampshire. We ascended the mountain via the interesting and briefly exposed Castle Trail along the Castellated Ridge, gaining approximately 4200 vertical feet over about 4.5 miles, then descended one of the longer scree slopes I've slipped and slid down, the Castle Ravine Trail, another 4.5 miles, on the other side of the ravine.
Day Two: Met up with a new friend, Dan Sutton, and did a short but very enjoyable day of rock climbing and a bit of bouldering at Whitehorse Ledges. A lot of fun and the perfect recipe for the day.
Above, Steve Geremia approaches the second in a series of three pinnacles (The Castles) on the Castellated Ridge.
