"Climbing" to the peak of the second Castle. I was really only about three feet off the ground here. Just a stunt shot - though roughly 3000 feet of air was just on the other side of the rock I was on in this photo. There was a bit of very minor scrambling along a narrow rock ridge through the pinnacles. Just after this shot was taken Steve and I mutually dropped my digital camera in a bumbled handoff. As it hit the rock and skittered down several feet to smack against a boulder, the battery bay opened and the four Nimh batteries popped out, two of which found their way into a narrow fissure in the rock. Steve couldn't get his hand far enough in the crack to retrieve them and for a moment I thought the shots might be over for the trip. However, I was able to stuff my fingers into the slot and get them out, and luckily none of the shots I'd taken were lost and the camera didn't suffer any damage. We handed the camera to one another as if it were an infant child the rest of the trip. |
