One of the trademark "un-pavé" sections at Tour of the Battenkill. All of the climbs are steep and unpaved. It was uncharacteristically hot for early April: 89F. Truth be told, it was a choking dustbowl and at about half of the starters didn't finish. Coming in to town, many minutes down on the field, I was attempting to keep the early symptoms of heatstroke under control when the locals lining the street started cheering for each and evey rider crossing the finish line. It was one of the most emotional ends to one of the most beautiful - and brutal - races I've experienced.
